Martha is the hairdressing teacher for a Lift Up Girls group in Iganga District, Uganda. She's married and has four children from 1 to 12 years of age, including twins! She has a difficult time finding school fees for her children as her husband is out of work. Please pray for her husband to get a job and for Martha to be sponsored in her job as a teacher for Lift Up Girls so she can help support the needs of her family.
Jenifer Mbakire is a 40 year old married mother with four kids and one on the way - due anytime now! She was the second teacher employed at Lift Up Girls and was eager to help train young girls in tailoring and contribute to her own family's income. Because she lives 30 minutes from the Lift Up Girls site in Iganga, she must take a Boda motorcycle or taxi bus to get to work each weekend. They are struggling to pay school fees for their four children and Lift Up Girls is eager to provide a regular monthly income for this family.
Mai is 48 years old and lives in Bugembe (Buikwe District). She has 6 grown children and 4 grandchildren, which she is now helping to raise. She is currently teaching tailoring in Katende Bugembe in Jinja and travels a good distance to reach the center where she works with the girls. Teaching tailoring with Lift Up Girls is one of the ways she provides for her and her grandchildren.
Esther is 27 years old and helps her mother look after her three younger siblings. Esther was the first teacher employed by Lift Up Girls and has been faithfully teaching tailoring to our students since the beginning. She is hard-working and loyal despite many challenges in her life. She works with the Tongol group from Buikwe District.
Esther was born in Northern Uganda in the areas affected by Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army. She is 36 years old and married with two daughters. She joined Lift Up Girls after seeing a need in her community and she wanted to be part of helping young mothers and school dropouts. Esther registered 70 girls in the Buziika program; 36 school dropouts, 22 were below 16 years and a 14 year old mother who had just given birth. Her passion is to make a difference in the lives of young mothers enable them to hope and dream again.
