Martha Nankwanga
Martha is the hairdressing teacher for Lift Up Girls group in Iganga District, Uganda. She is married and has four children including twins! She has a difficult time finding school fees for her children as her husband is out of work. The family lives in Iganga in the Eastern of Uganda. She has been a Lift Up Girls Teacher for 3 years now and we are requesting monthly sponsorship for Martha in her job as a teacher for Lift Up Girls so she can help to support the needs of her family.
Jenifer Mbakire
Jenifer is a 42 year old, married mother with five kids living in Iganga. She works in one of the Lift Up Girls groups teaching tailoring skills. She was the second teacher employed by Lift Up Girls and was eager to help train young girls in tailoring and contribute to her own family's income. Because she lives 30 minutes away from the Lift Up Girls site she normally uses a boda motorcycle or a taxi to get to work each day. She struggles to pay fees or tuition for her own children and Lift Up Girls is eager to provide a regular monthly income for this family.
Catherine Nabunya
Catherine is 27 years old with two children. She is a single mother living in Jinja Katende. She is an orphan who has struggled to make it in life. Catherine is a committed teacher who teaches skills in hair dressing and is so passionate about seeing young mothers and school dropouts learn technical skills. Currently she is struggling in paying school fees for her children's education, paying rent, and feeding her children.
Joan Mutesi
Joan is 28 years old, single and devoted to LiftUp Girls. She’s the only teacher in our organization that teaches both hair dressing and tailoring classes, she’s so motivated and dedicated to what she’s doing in the organization. She is our only trained teacher at Buvuma Island in the middle of Lake Victoria. Her ability to provide for herself depends on the salary we give her. She is an excellent teacher and we hope she can find a sponsor for her salary so we can continue working with her.
Aisha Naigaga
Aisha is a 41-year single mother of four children who are all living in a single room in Jinja Katende. She is a dedicated teacher who teaches tailoring skills. Twenty of her ladies graduated the last year in 2024, and some have started up their own businesses through her dedication in making sure that everyone learns the skills. Two of her children are not in school because she can't afford school fees. She is also having a hard time renting and looking after her family. Your sponsorship will help her care for her own kids.
Esther Nalukwango
Esther is 29 years old and helps her mother look after her three young siblings, Esther is a single mother of one child and she teaches tailoring skills. She lives in Buikwe District and she was the first teacher to be employed by Lift Up Girls. She's so hard working and loyal despite the many challenges in her life. She works in the Tongolo group of Lift Up Girls. Tongolo is the first Group that Lift Up Girls started and Esther taught 212 students in that first year.
Esther Auma
Esther was born in Northern Uganda in an area affected by the rebels’ group, which was led by Joseph Kony. She is 38 years old and married with two daughters. She joined Lift Up Girls after seeing the need in her community, and she wanted to be part of helping young mothers and school dropouts. When she joined us, she had more than 70 girls in Buikwe; most of them were school dropouts, some had HIV, and the youngest mother was just 13 years old. Her passion is to make a difference in the lives of young mothers and to enable them to hope and dream again. She teaches tailoring classes.
